New to Cryptocurrency, Looking to Learn how to Mine
« on: April 21, 2017, 12:36:29 PM »
I've been researching cryptocurrency for a while now and I understand some parts but not all. Mainly for education purposes I though it might be cool to get a used $20 computer from Goodwill, put a fresh install of linux and try to mine a little. If anyone has any thoughts on the best linux install for mining, best software, best pool (or prefer solo), as well as setting up a GLD wallet, i'd like to know. I live in a dorm so electricity is free so the only money I'm losing is the $20 on the computer which could be used in future projects so I'm not worried about fronting that cost. Also any educational articles that you've found helpful would be great. Thanks!

Mining Goldcoin is not unlike mining other scrypt based cryptocurrencies, there are loads of guides and videos readily available.

But if you are serious about mining Goldcoin, you are going to want at minimum a desktop computer w/ dedicated GPU. I would suggest doing your homework on scrypt mining in general and then using this thread for any specific questions related to Goldcoin mining.
