Newbie Central / Re: Guess I have to make a new "topic" for visibility
« on: October 27, 2013, 11:13:18 PM »
The short answer is: no.

The long answer is that the ASIC Miner USB Block Erupter is only for mining SHA-256 coins, while GoldCoin is a scrypt coin.

This topic provides a little more information about upcoming hardware for mining scrypt coins:

Trading Discussion / Bot's on Cryptsy
« on: October 25, 2013, 06:21:11 PM »
There are now some recognizable trading bots on Cryptsy.  For instance, today I put in a small order at 0.00001823 BTC for GLD.  Shortly there after a bot added its own bid at 0.00001824 for the exact same amount of GLD.

This may be a good thing, though it is annoying, to be outbid by 1 Satoshi.  But it does increase the amount of buy orders at the top end.

I have also noticed some 8 Satoshi bots on GLD.  They have been seen in both LTC and BTC markets.

If weekly or biweekly videos are too often, I would vote for triweekly videos.

Mining & Pools / Re: The next GPU for scrypt mining

AMD is coming out with new cards (or is it just a rebranding of the old cards?):

So far I haven't found any information about how fast these are at mining scrypt.

In the Bitcointalk forums, there are some posts about FPGA's for scrypt:

Great points.  We should link to the official websites in the event of bitcointalk being offline.  The links will be updated soon.

Mining & Pools / Re: multipool
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:27:27 PM »
You are certainly correct, the multipool (hashco.ws) is driving up the difficulty (by only by 41% at a time).  Unfortunately, recently the multipool stayed with the network for 2 difficulty changes for nearly a 100% increase.  Now we have some very long block times.

A change in the difficulty re-targeting method is one way to handle this.  Several coins have made these kinds of changes.  GoldCoin's method was updated at the end of August, which minimizes some of the damage done by multipools compared to other coins such as DGC and IFC (before they were updated).  The idea behind the difficulty retarget is that the difficulty should increase in such a way as to make the coin less profitable compared to some other coin, without having a drastic increase in the difficulty that would make the network very slow after the multipool left.

The DevTeam is looking into this matter currently.

GoldCoin Discussion / Re: Official GLD Donation Addresses
« on: September 28, 2013, 05:52:21 PM »
As the quoted article states, the client will break up GoldCoins based on the way that they are deposited into the address.

If someone puts 10,000 into the address, then 5,000 is paid out to the development team: the result is that 10,000 are removed from the address, 5,000 sent to the developer and 5,000 returned to the wallet under a different address.

If someone puts 5,000 into the address and later 5,000 is paid out to the development team, then the client will take the 5,000 and send it to the developer.  No change needs to be made.

Trading Discussion / PhenixEx Exchange: Not Recommended
« on: September 27, 2013, 03:10:44 AM »
PhenixEx (https://phenixex.com/) is an exchange that has not been processing withdrawals lately (BTC or other coins).
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=300778.0

Besides withdrawals that are not working, the exchange has very low volume.  It's a good thing GoldCoin is not listed there.

Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are alt coins profitable to mine at the moment?
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:20:50 AM »
You know what the problem is?

People don't mine to support a coin any more.

That is an excellent point.

Altcoin Discussion / Are alt coins profitable to mine at the moment?

Here is an interesting discussion on mining.  At this point, I determined that my 7870 card uses more electricity than what can be mined from it.

We can add a topic that details the different ways to buy bitcoins in various countries.

Altcoin Discussion / Cryptsy Exchange Updates
« on: September 22, 2013, 01:29:25 AM »
September 21, 2013
Today BigVern @cryptsy announced that the HYC, CNC, CRC, NAN, GIL Markets will be closing on OCT 1st.  This is "Due to inactive developers and low hashrates, this coin will be delisted from the market on Oct 1st, 2013. Wallets will remain open indefinately."

This is the first time to my knowledge that coins are being delisted, since Powercoin (which was 51% attacked).  There have been times when certain coins were removed from trading temporarily due to various problems with those coins.  ChinaCoin (CNC) was the oldest of these coins that will be delisted.

Additionally, WDC and DGC are now in both BTC and LTC markets.  This status was first achieved by GoldCoin in August of 2013.
