Title: Which would be more profitable?
Post by: sizzflair on November 26, 2013, 04:36:03 PM
I haven't built my rig yet since I'm still deployed oversees... but I plan on getting the rig up early December to mine/support GLD coin to become profitable down the road.

How much is 'too much?'  The estimate hashrate for my planned rig is around 3500-4000 kh/s (in terms of litecoin so it should be similiar).  Is that too much depending on the pool or would solo mining be more profitable?

Sorry no one responded to you. Thank you for your service. I don't know exactly, but pool mining with almost every crypto-coin is going to be the best route. I'm not sure if there is a too-much as the difficulty should adjust to the miners speed accordingly making it fair. At Least that is what I can take from reading around here and there.

I don't think that would be too much in terms of hashrate, and I agree with superbleester that pool mining is the way to go.

What kind of mining rig do you have planned?

Thanks for the response  8)

From what I've read, it makes sense for pool mining... but with goldcoin's 51% attack protection and the current low difficulty level (I think...), I just wanted to ask and make sure.  I'm still a noob so I'm learning as I go.

I'm planning on 4 x R9 290 to start it off.  It should get me about 3200 kh/s to start with.  It's pretty hard to get a new 7950s these days (it's not as cheap as it used to be... and I'm not sure about buying used ones without warranty) and I think 290s have a good potential to get better as people find the new settings (According to litecoin forum, it's been getting 850+kh/s).  Less cards = less things to go wrong as well and less money spent on pcie extenders & space.... and the prices don't seem too bad at the moment.  $400 per card and it comes with BF4 code so I could probably sell that.

Once I get familiar with the rig, I'll probably expand up to 4 rigs.  If ASICs get in the picture and GPUs become obsolete, I'lll probably quad crossfire it or something for gaming haha  :P.  290s should be easier to sell for gaming enthusiasts vs 7950s especially if the market is going to be flooded with them when that day comes  :-\.

I'm willing to risk a little bit and hoping for GLD to go big :)   If it goes up to $1.00 even, it would be a great investment :)  Of course more the better and I'm in it for the long run!

Just curious, how many coins on average are you/have you guys been mining per day at x hasrhate?  I just want to get an estimate on ROI.
