I'm running on windows and the update won't take effect, so to speak. After clicking I agree, it has C:\program files (x86)\goldcoin (GLD) as the install location. But when I click install. I keep getting a "error opening file for writing" message. Options are abort, retry, or ignore. None seem to get me anywhere. Thanks.

Backup your wallet if you have coins in it and store your backup wallet safely somewhere else.
Uninstall Goldcoin program, try to remove all goldcoin files in appdata expect wallet.

Thanks. I'm kind of new to this, can you quickly run through the steps with me to back up the wallet with a thumb drive. Might seem a little elementary, but I just want to avoid any bone headed mistakes that I may make. Thanks a Mil!

Your wallet is located in:
In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 this is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\GoldCoin (GLD)\wallet.dat
In Windows XP it is this: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\GoldCoin (GLD)\wallet.dat
Make a copy of wallet.dat and store this copy of your goldcoin wallet.dat somewhere else.
When you reinstall goldcoin again and it works put a copy of the wallet back into its original location.

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\GoldCoin (GLD)\wallet.dat

Man. This is getting really annoying. I deleted it, and I'm still having the same problem. What does this (x86) crap mean anyway...

Cancel that, I got it.

Glad you've got it.. but just for future reference.
That usually means that your client is still open...
Always check taskmanager to make sure it is infact closed as sometimes it can be hidden in the tray.
