I haven't taken them seriously and am annoyed by their success a lot but I have to hand it to them, they know how to create network effect.  It is certainly a wise move to develop a wide and deep development team--kind of like having a basketball team that has top-shelf bench warmers.

Agreed.

I think what happened was after their recent fork they realized they were a little short-handed in the development dept. We could certainly learn a lot from Dogecoin in terms of social networking, communications, marketing, promotion, and overall community organization.
