Title: CryptoCurrency Convention
Post by: IrishTR on March 05, 2014, 08:35:07 PM
Hey just wondering if we had a speaker going to represent us.  If I had more background/info on GoldCoin indepth to speak on it and the money to go, I'd do it.  Sadly I feel I barely know enough to tell my friends in detail let alone speak at a conference.  Be to afraid of someone asking a question about some detail I wouldn't have the answer to and then GoldCoin looks like fools for putting me up there lol.

Anyways just wondering if we'll have representation.

Great topic!  :)

If you would agree to go, we could all get together and pool together the required funds. Think of it as an all expenses paid vacation to New York. I would go, but I've got my hands full here in South Carolina with three children and can't make this trip.

I'm sure between now and then you could polish up on your Goldcoin knowledge, and by April, be ready to impress.

P.S. We're also working on getting the Goldcoin Foundation set up. Please let me know if you'd like to participate.

Hrmm very very tempting :P  Lemme see if I can shoe it into the schedule and get time off, I'll let you know before the end of next week hopefully (waitin on the Mrs to get back in town).

The biggest thing if I was to speak at it, I'd wanna get full disclosure/technical details into the 51% defense as that seems like something to highlight upon of course, but I was following other threads over at bitcoin forums and seeing the debate go back and forth.  I'm certain if there was a Q&A after speaking on it, that would be the topic of debate above anything else.  I've read the idea/overview behind our 51% claim, but I'd like to be able to combat any questions/negative naysayers that might come up ya know.  Again if I was going I wanna represent us 100% and be prepared as best possible to not make a fool of myself/the community!  Oh the other thing obviously to highlight would be our new client release I think that and the 51% defense would be 2 key talking points for our presentation.  And of course our new jingle for the intro would be a hit!  Crap as I write this another idea flowing... GoldCoin Logo Polo!  Gotta represent!  I wish I would of know of this sooner, I know you mentioned it before on Facebook but I've been little preoccupied and very little free time.

As far as the Foundation, sure, I mentioned earlier that I'd help out wherever I could.  I try to spread the word wherever and help people when/where I can (tweaking mining rigs if they are running, setting up wallets etc.)  I could help moderate forums/website if needed.  I have a System Admin background but nothing in the programming department.

So if I don't make it suggestions for Speaker at Convention.

2 Main Topics - New Client and 51% Defense
GoldCoin Logo Polo (Embroidered non of that cheap silkscreen mess)

Wow, this would be really cool to go to. I definitely think we should have someone there to speak.

I may be able to go. I don't think I have the technical expertise to give a speech about GoldCoin, but I can help out with setting up the booth and talk to anyone about what makes our coin different and the future ahead of us (new client, logo, and possible role it could play in the physical gold market or as a commodity/currency)

I would need to get school'ed up on this though. Maybe I'll bring a goldcoin mining rig haha

I really think the software engineer should be there at least though, to be able to answer any technical questions... maybe get on skype for the Q&A portion?

Nail on the head about the programmer Sizzflair!  Hell if we had the funds make it a 3 man trip lol we'll setup and do the hardware side of the house haha.

Haha yea. Well I used to go to school in New York so I have some friends I could visit while I'm there... so I wouldn't mind making the trip out there, but since it's during the week I'll have to take a few days off on leave. I can probably get it approved...

If the community can help with the cost, that would be very helpful. The devs may need to brainstorm some ideas for the booth... a flyer or something to hand out to spread the word. Goodies such as t-shirts always bring people to the booth!

I was just going to use the mining rig as a heater though haha

Seems like a great idea,

I'd come myself but I have my hands full with moving houses and the new client.

Best of luck.

If you have any questions about the 51% defense feel free to pm me.

If someone has some extra time, maybe we could get a donation page setup at one of the popular crowdfunding/fundraising sites. We should be able to raise enough money in no time to make this happen. (:D)

https://www.google.com/#q=fundraising+site

If you guys can get this setup, I'll blast the link away on all our social sites.

Akumaburn I don't want to pressure you or anything do you think the new client would be ready by the time of the convention?  Just curious if so would be something that could be demo'd live if so.

Here it is folks the fundraiser link!  If you have anything you wish me to add/change please let me know as well as suggestions.  I tried to get it knocked out rather quickly so sorry if it seems kinda rushed, but we're under the gun with timeline to con and fundraising deadlines.

Awesome Dustint!  Many thanks, again this is really last minute and rush job.  I do wanna try and get the perks for those special donators, so please bear with me, but hopefully I can get that squared away by the deadline I set for myself.

Guys we need to register our speaker asap as well for this.  And just to keep informed here, we are currently at $120 of our $1000  goal from 2 of our community members so far!

Would it be to much to as Akuma/AZIZ to possibly provide some whitepaper/format that we could go off of.  I could try to write up a speech or something.  Alas I don't even see any specific format or what to expect from the event.  For example talk time, what the target audience will be and roughly how many.  Things of that nature ya know.  Im sure there is more info to be had once we're registered our speaker.

Also if donating money via the Fundraiser site is something you cannot do, one of the suggested special perks is GoldCoins for those who pledged $100 (there are 5 awards of these) so I'm tryin to come up with a solid number to split 5 ways to give back to these generous donating members.

I also said I would work on getting us some GoldCoin Swag as well.  So I need a consensus on what logo to be used so I can start looking at TShirt/Polo shirt companies secure pricing and the like as well.  Now I set those for the $50 pledge folks, but we could also sell the shirts afterwards as well too for cost.  I am not doing this to make profit its all for the betterment of the community just FYI, I have a full time paying job already I don't need another haha.

Awesome, the fundraiser since its short notice and leaving small window to arrange the funds to the speaker and pay for airfare being the biggest issue, we literally only have 7 days left to reach our goal.  I also need to setup a GoldCoin wallet to accept donations and put those towards perks for our generous fundraiser donaters who pledged $100, only 4 remain but we already had one kind person kick that off right!  In these shaky times in the news surrounding BitCoin, this is a fairly trusting undertaking and with that I hope our community shines through, I'm doing what I can to help with this and even me looking at it from a stranger standpoint, it requires some trust and understanding, I try to represent this with Integrity first, service before self, excellence in all we do. (5 coins who can point out where that's from - and that will give you some insight on where I am coming from ;) )

Thank you all thus far and go GoldCoin!

Looks like the fund raiser is progressing well. I'll send out another donation reminder tonight.

Has it been determined who will be representing Goldcoin at the conference? Also, if anyone else is interested in helping us setup the foundation please send me a private message.

I unfortunately have to bow out as possible person to go.  RL work just saddled me with stuff that will prevent me from being able to attend.

Sizzflair it looks like you gotta be our rep bud.  We will need to get you registered as the guest speaker as well as once the fundraising ends for me to send you the funds we have raised.  Currently it is all via Paypal and they've taken their fees and depending on if we reach our goal/not the amount the site charges.  But I will gladly send it your way or use funds to purchase airfare directly to avoid any further possible fees.

Jus made a 'silver' contribution, seems wrong I know, just couldn't quite stretch to 'gold'!!

Do we even have anyone to attend?! Either way, I'm sure the funds will be put to good use

Thank you Agnusnatum, I'm hoping Sizzflair chimes back in so we can green light him and get arrangements made *unless someone else wants to volunteer*.  Otherwise I'm afraid we won't have anyone able to make it, I was gonna try to be the guy, but RL work axed it and scheduled me for other locations :(

If we do not end up having someone go, I'll take a poll from those who contributed how they wish to utilize the monies (refund/towards other projects).  I was thinking, and again this is up to those who donated as I don't consider it my money and if its not going to original purpose they should decide, but I would like to go forward either way with generating our GoldCoin Swag.  I'll have some free time this weekend to research all that and get a plan to present to our generous backers thus far.

I'm thinking Polo Shirts Embroidered (as those were what I wanted to give those $50-$100 contributors/Foundation Members) And Silkscreened T-Shirts for others provided we get descent pricing.  Perhaps we can also look at say a GoldCoin Coin (much like the coins we receive in the military) No value but its a representation of our community and a way to show your support (Example - http://www.challengecoinusa.com/CCUSA/Air-Force-Challenge-Coin-1.jpg) but with our GoldCoin colors, logo and slogans.

What if we used the money on marketing of some kind? I'm not really familiar with the big cryptocurrency sites, but it seems like the big issue right now is getting the word out about GoldCoin.

IrishTR,

sorry about the late response.  I've been way too busy with work ever since being back from training and been enjoying the long weekends with friends (Bachelor Party).

As far as me going to the convention, I would love to go to represent GoldCoin... but I'm don't think I possess the technical knowledge to speak about it unfortunately if I was to be a guest speaker.  While I have no problem talking about GoldCoin and I could probably make a presentation about it, I don't think I possess the technical knowledge to give a speech in front of other coin developers and very technical individuals.  I feel like the audience would listen to me more if I knew what the hell I'm talking about both in the development side and the social/implementation side of Crypto.

What I CAN offer is to be there as a GoldCoin representative (not as a guest speaker) and get to know the other developers and try to spread the word to any interested both new and old investors.  I can also film the conference and upload them so that you guys can all see and listen to the various developers.  While I am no expert in this, I used to record and edit videos as a hobby... so I have a decent HD Camera with tripod and I can invest in a very nice portable microphone to capture the conference.  This is assuming that they would allow me to do so.

I can also probably set up a booth and have brochures/goodies to handout while answering any questions that I would do my best to answer.

For me I've always been a fan of Black polo for things like this.  Logo looks fine :)   T-shirts might be cheaper though and could potentially handout or sell cheaply to spread the word.  For a T-shirt, logo in the front and in the back it would say "GoldCoin is the Future!" with a website address or something like that.

From what I saw, they want to charge $200 entry fee for spectators, I presume Speakers were free (as nothing I could find indicated any fee for that).  It's also just a small stage/theater room again from what intel I could gather.  I didn't see anywhere to really setup anything other than the podium I presume they'd use for the speakers while everyone in the crowd is just in chairs.  And as far as the talking points I think it was more a social aspect with light technical talk in it, MicroGuy and Akuma had sent me some information that could help on the tech side.  Darcy on FB had some good ideas for what our focus should be during presentation.  So again help is here if you feel froggy.

I really don't know what to say/suggest on this at this point as I can't access certain places now due to work/where I am and it keeping me busy.  But our campaign raised $360 total and then the fundraiser and paypal site is taking its cut outta that, I'm still waiting on 2 of the CC payments to be processed through, I think we'll end up with like $340est after they get their fees (paypal and indiegogo.com).  So if we are not going to have someone there, I need to know what everyone who donated wishes to do with these funds.  I also received a few GoldCoins but no information of from who/why (1900GLD if memory serves last I looked at Wallet), I did suggest giving those to our $100+ donators (Indiegogo slapped my hand saying I couldn't offer currency as a perk reward - officially so they removed it from the site to avoid cancelling it entirely and withholding any pending funds.

I am trying to be as helpful as I can and transparent as well, I don't want anyone to think I was in this for any personal gain or anything like that, I am doing this for our community.  So please chime in especially if you donated as this IMO is your funds and should have the final say so what to do with them.

The Polo shirts were for the contributors of $50 or more (we had 4 total that fell into that category).   I originally was designing on a Black Shirt, but the problem was with the current logo and colors it just did not look good on a black background and using embroidery (again I want these shirts to be ours and quality) the pricing for the amounts I saw weren't too terrible.  For TShirt give aways/whatever we can get more creative with those since silkscreen is super easy to do and cheaper.  Also wanna do that official Coin (no value just a community token/swag).

So let me know the consensus and I'll get processing on it.  My only suggestion left is use the funds raised, for all those active participants as well as forum members possible, create some official swag, and leave some for future marketing/community support?

I think one of those shirts would be perfect for contributors to wear around to start the conversation and interest people about goldcoin.  I would like to see microguy wearing one in an upcoming video  :).  Stickers with that main slogan would be great for goldcoin members to stick around for some advertising.  Thank you for all the great effort IrishTR.

Still working on it as I can, might make some headway this weekend.  Can I get people to PM me their mailing address (especially those who contributed $50 or more)  As they will be the first recipients!  Don't hold my feet to fire but I would presume turn around time in the hopeful range of reaching yall's doors by end of next month at the latest.  And we can go from there if more members see the finished product and would like for me to order more.

Oh yea Sizes please for your Polo Shirt (typical polo shirt sizes) I myself am a Large Shirt (42-44 Chest measurement), Best guess from seeing MicroGuy on screen he strikes me as a Large too maybe Medium - you know camera weight :P

You guys are doing a fantastic job. I love the shirt idea. You can put me down for a large size. :D

Sorry that I haven't been all that active in this discussion, you guys were doing such a good job without me, I figured it was best to just let it roll! I'll get back to making some videos soon and getting out on the streets to interview people and to give away free paper wallets and other promotional gear. Looks like we're bucking the trend today, up 12% on the day.

One thing's for sure, Goldcoin has the most awesome community!  8)
