Title: GoldCoin Wallet v4.x
Post by: Stouse49 on June 13, 2016, 01:24:29 AM
Work has begun on the upgrade of the GoldCoin wallet.  The time to finish this sometime in July.
Here is the Beta Release:
https://github.com/Stouse49/goldcoin-wallet/releases/tag/v4.58.1-beta

Here is the source:
https://github.com/Stouse49/goldcoinj (release-0.14 branch) - This is the base Java Library.
https://github.com/Stouse49/goldcoin-wallet (master branch)

We won't be using the older source except for some custom code that is specific to GoldCoin.

Small donations (like 1-10 GLD) and replies to this thread will speed up the work on this project.

Based on this reply, I have made sure the Java Library for GoldCoin can connect to the network and sync the blockchain using the correct POW and the Golden River.

I am most deligted on the progress and the development of the wallet.  To be on top of our game and make goldcoin the lead coin globally.
we need to look at the following.

1. security and user friendly aspect of the application.

2. We need to ensure that when someone get hold of your mobile phone he does not just have access to your wallet. introduction of pin before you get to the wallet should be worked on.

3. the application should allow copy of wallet ID or option to send your ID apart from the QR Code.

4. We need to find a way to have notification via email or SMS option.

5. 2FA security via email or google authentication.

6.  so Far i must say the effort put in place is wow.

7. using this medium to appreciate all in the team developer, mobile, administrator etc.  together goldcoin will rule the world.

I will drop my suggestion from time to time as we get feedback from the market.

It's great to see the app is now under development. Is there an example version of this app that can be downloaded?

Do you know of any altcoins that have forked the blockchain.info app? https://github.com/blockchain

I think the new app has a lot of potential for use globally, especially now that Gold Club International will be distributing the app throughout its organization. Given the current scale of smartphone use, I think it's safe to say that moving forward this app will see much heavier usage than the desktop client.

Would it be possible to have a finished version released next month? Is there anything we can do to help?

Due to my limited progress so far, the only example app that one can download right now is the Bitcoin Wallet from Google Play.  I am taking this app and converting it to GoldCoin.  All of the features will be the same.

Has any altcoin forked the Blochchain.info app?  Not to my knowledge as far as making a working app:  one guy on github forked the android version, https://github.com/anesi/My-Wallet-V3-Android, and changed the text and graphics for another coin, but that is not enough to make it work!  From what I know, the blockchain app depends on their Server, which is not open source.  Other apps such as Samourai have been developed that use the blockchain.info servers, but its for bitcoin only.  There is one block explorer at chainz.cryptoid.info and parts of their API mimic blockchain.info, but not enough to make a working app.

Yes, its possible to have this finished by July.  The way to help is to stay interested and ask about my progress.  When I made the poll for this, there were only 5 replies, seemingly not much interest.

Here are the answers:
1.  Security will include a PIN that is required to spend.  Otherwise, the user should have a locked phone or device.  It will only be as easy to use as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet
2.  See number 1
3.  Not sure what this is unless you are talking about BIP39 (seed words) or XPUB or XPRV.  Currently this wallet can show the XPUB or share it, but that is it.  It can make backups of the wallet in its own format.
4.  Not included.
5.  Not included.  This app doesn't use any external servers, it is a peer to peer app.  It connects to the GoldCoin network just like the desktop client using the GoldCoin Wire Protocol.
6.  Thanks.
7.  Great.

I won't be adding any new features to the app that are not already present in Bitcoin Wallet.  If those developers add features, then I can add update the code to get them.

Thank you for this explanation. I think the lack of interest in the poll could have been related to the fact our community has so many different platforms: bitcointalk, slack, discord, gldtalk, facebook group, and even various foreign versions of some of those.

I'm going to make a concentrated effort to promote this forum as the primary hub for our community. Then the members can help to disseminate the information across the other many platforms.

The Android App is of great importance, and I will try to do a better job of increasing awareness and interest in this vital work.

Status:  Enough has been changed on the app to get it to connect to the GoldCoin network and sync the blockchain.  I am only connecting to one peer, though this node list on gldcoin.com has several more:

Code: [Select]
addnode=104.28.0.76
addnode=104.28.1.76
addnode=107.161.23.159
addnode=24.54.97.47
addnode=216.170.126.215
addnode=167.160.36.162 <-- app only connects to this one

This app will never use Electrum Servers.  If we want an app that uses those servers, we will need to make a new app, such as Coinomi.  I could do that one too, if someone else sets up the electrum servers.

Things are definitely progressing on the app.  Sending and Receiving work.

Some features do not work like Paper Wallet Sweep.  For this we need a block explorer that has an "Unspent" API similar to any ABE based block explorer as well as these:  cryptoID, Blockr and blockchain.info.  Someone can ask Dreamwatcher if his block explorer has that feature or if he can add it.

Once the previous item is addressed, we can update the goldcoin paper wallet (http://goldcoinwallet.com) to the latest version of bitaddress.org which supports BIP38 encrypted paper wallets and these can be imported by the GoldCoin App.  I have already modified the bitaddress.org paper wallet for GoldCoin and the GoldCoin app can read the private keys (with and without password encryption).

We need more working nodes that the app can connect to.  Currently it connects only to one and this prevents the app from being notified if a Transaction that it sent was received by the GoldCoin network.  The app sends out out a transaction to half of its connected nodes and waits for the other half to send it back to the app.  This is how the app verifies that a transaction that it sent was actually received by the network.

Code: [Select]
addnode=104.28.0.76
addnode=104.28.1.76
addnode=107.161.23.159
addnode=24.54.97.47
addnode=216.170.126.215
addnode=167.160.36.162 <-- app only connects to this one

Ideally, we should have a DNS seed node for the app to get nodes from.

Thanks for your support.  In a day or two I will publish the app to GitHub and put the link here.

What remains is this:
pull some updates from Bitcoin Wallet that were recently published
Change all Bitcoin Text to GoldCoin.
Change all the icons from Bitcoin to Goldcoin.
Other fixes for not set seen bugs!

Currently, there should be 3 dedicated DNS seed nodes active. One is operated by Dreamwatcher, one is hosted on my local network, and the third on a Linux VPS. I've sent a message to Akumaburn to ask if he can check the Linux VPS seed node. The local node I'm hosting is up and running. The node you have been connecting to is DreamWatcher's.

(https://puu.sh/pJljR/c6cf846509.png)

The .121 address is the Linux VPS maintained by Akuma, .162 is the DreamWatcher node, and the .47 is my locally hosted node.

In regards to the blockexplorer API, I will send a message to DreamWatcher today to see if he supports, or can add, the required feature.

The app still only connects to two nodes:  167.160.36.162 (the same is true for the old app).

24.54.97.47 is running with port 8121 open.

107.161.23.121 doesn't have port 8121 open (currently), so the app cannot connect.

The app has the limitation of not being able to request nodes from other nodes in the GoldCoin network.  Therefore, it only connects to a given node unless that address is a DNS seed that provides other actual nodes.  The standard bitcoin DNS Seeder is https://github.com/sipa/bitcoin-seeder.    In Windows, the nslookup command will give a list of nodes from the Seed IP address and for these three IP addresses, for me nslookup returns only an error message.  However, if I do nslookup on a DNS seed for another coin:  dnsseed.darkcoin.io, then there are more than 10 IP addresses returned.

I received Gregs E-mail and I am looking into adding an unspent function to the API on CCE.

The only major issue I can see (which is also an issue for ABE based explorers) is that it is a resource heavy database query.

An unspent function would work very much like a ledger request and would be written as a modified ledger function.

Right now the ledger request is the most resource intensive query (both API and WEB) as there is no way to efficiently calculate and store a ledger for every address.

Ledger requests are generated in real time and thus are limited to the last 100 credits/debits.

However, I am thinking that an unspent function could be lighter then a ledger request.

Exactly what information do you need from an unspent request? The ABE unspent function seems to send back some extraneous information. Would each unspent TX_IN hash and amount be all that you need?

Since this would be a resource heavy query, I would ask that you only use it when necessary and use other API functions when able. For example: Use the address balance function to get the total amount in an address. This is updated and stored every block update so it is a fast light query as it does not have to search the entire database/table(s) or preform multiple comparisons/calculations.

107.161.23.121 doesn't have port 8121 open (currently), so the app cannot connect.

This morning, I was able to find someone to log onto this server and open port 8121.

Dreamwatcher, hopefully I can answer your question in full.  This is an example of an unspent query from blockchain.info: https://blockchain.info/unspent?active=1GRrgAVXX9BabrWzqCUwpeXPWAYoxHUtbf which has the output:
Code: [Select]

{

    "unspent_outputs":[

        {
            "tx_hash":"d308647962beb4bdef1647ce31e5305916cb20faec9729aa451094ec51c19b94",
            "tx_hash_big_endian":"949bc151ec941045aa2997ecfa20cb165930e531ce4716efbdb4be62796408d3",
            "tx_index":155886271,
            "tx_output_n": 1,
            "script":"76a914a93d562de5f42bd1eebc174845f6f16a24fef04b88ac",
            "value": 10000000,
            "value_hex": "00989680",
            "confirmations":1722
        }

    ]
}

The code in the Android Wallet is as follows:

Code: [Select]
final Sha256Hash uxtoHash = Sha256Hash.wrap(jsonOutput.getString("tx_hash"));
final int uxtoIndex = jsonOutput.getInt("tx_index");
final byte[] uxtoScriptBytes = Constants.HEX.decode(jsonOutput.getString("script"));
final Coin uxtoValue = Coin.valueOf(Long.parseLong(jsonOutput.getString("value")));

The above Java code simply means we need those four parameters from the unspent outputs:  tx_hash, tx_index, script and value (in satoshi).  One of your questions was "Would each unspent TX_IN hash and amount be all that you need?" - the answer is we also need the transaction index (tx_index) in addition to the TX_IN hash and the amount.  The script can be calculated from the address that is being queried.

How often would this be used?  Only as often as GoldCoin Android wallet users need to redeem or sweep a paper wallet.  They will use the app to scan the QR code of the private key of the Paper Wallet.  Then the app will generate the Address for the private key and query the block explorer using the unspent API.  Next, it will take the information and create a transaction with the inputs being the unspent outputs from the block explorer and the output will be an address in the Android Wallet App.  Lastly, the app will broadcast that transaction to the network and it will get verified and confirmed.  I don't think this will happen very often.

The app will not use any other function of your block explorer.  It is an SPV client and keeps track of its own balance, but it doesn't allow importing of other private keys because it doesn't keep the entire blockchain on the device.  The means by which the Bitcoin Wallet for android developers found to resolve this issue was to query an external service.

The unspent API may be as expensive as a ledger request.  It will need to look for all the incoming amounts (credits) and then all the outgoing amounts(debits) to determine which credits haven't been spent.

I have downloaded the app and will begin testing send/receive today between app and desktop client.  :)

I'm using this QR scanner and my webcam to capture receiving addresses from the app: https://sourceforge.net/projects/zbar/ For me, the hardest part has always been getting coins from my desktop loaded onto the app.

I'm not sure about the memory error. It only happened once and it was before the blockchain fully synced.

Question: would it be possible to add Niara NGN to the list of supported exchange rates?

We need to find a website that has the currency on it.

Right now the app uses http://bitcoinaverage.com with http://blockchain.info as a backup for getting exchange rates.  I don't see that particular currency on either list.

Thank you Eric for this reply.  :)

I was able to find a few API sources that might have the data you need.

(most popular)

The Coindesk Price Index has a public API that supports NGN:

http://www.coindesk.com/api/

(others)

Bitpay has NGN and appears to offer a free public API for exchange rates:

https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-exchange-rates
https://bitpay.com/api#resource-Rates

I've found this Nigerian bitcoin exchange with a public API:

https://www.bitx.co/in/ng/en/api
https://api.mybitx.com/api/1/tickers

(paid)

This is free up to 1,000 API requests/month but costs $12/month for 10,000 API requests:

https://docs.openexchangerates.org/docs/supported-currencies
https://oxr.readme.io/

I'll continue searching and will update the above list if I find more rate sources.

Thanks for the links to other services that provide more currencies.  I will see about adding one in.

My time is very limited for the rest of the month for development of this app.  I will try to replace all the "Bitcoin" with GoldCoin as a first priority.  The second will be the exchange rates for other key currencies.

If anything is changed on the app, I will publish to GitHub and post a link to it here for testing.  Google Play listings will happen in August.  Currently I am considering having this app as a new listing instead of replacing the current app.  Theoretically, the new app is backward compatible iwth the old app as far as installing over it and using the wallet files of the old app.

Looks like the NGN currency is in the App.

The app will use one of three sites to get the exchange rates.  First is bitpay.com, which has NGN. If there is a problem getting that information, then it will get the information from another site that does not have NGN.

Next step is to change Bitcoin to GoldCoin.

Well done !!!!

To answer the question by goldclub, there are two ways to release the app on Google Play:
1.  It is an upgrade to the current app.  After publishing to Google Play, users will get the update on their phone and it will replace the old Goldcoin Wallet is currently on Google Play.
2.  It is a separate app.  Users will have to install it on their own from Google Play.  If they have the old GoldCoin wallet, both will exist on the phone.

I've been testing the app again this morning and received the following error.  :think:

I had both the new app and the old app running at the same time. Not sure if that was the problem or not.

(https://puu.sh/qpDoI/8829e0771b.jpg)

Also, does the latest app have a backup function? I was looking around but couldn't find one.

This error or warning happens from time to time, especially on older devices.  Not sure how to fix it.

How to backup?  Go to Options | Safety | Backup wallet.

This back up is a once and done back up.  After backing up, you never have to back up again to save new transactions or anything.  This wallet is an HD wallet, were all addresses are determined by a seed value.

If i would have the choice i would take Nr.1

- It will not spam your phone with too much apps and and then accidentally delete the one with the coins  :shock:

- maybe it is a bit confusing for people on google play and we have still a lot of good reputation for the "old" app, so to keep this on the back is not a bad thing to have i guess ?

Lets have a separate app with a distinctive name to show the difference from the old to the new.

For us in Nigeria we have not started loading any app at so we will be alert users on the difference and if you choose to have the 2 provided the names are different it will not be a problem for us.

we needed make the name stand out.  and communicate the benefit or functionality of the apps version.

If we go this way, we will need a new name and a new icon.  Some of the apps for Bitcoin and others have cool names besides "Bitcoin Wallet".  There are things like Blockchain, Airbits, Samourai, Jaxx, etc.

It seems the best method is to have the New Android app as an upgrade for the old android app.

Today, I fixed the rest of the BTC icons.

Another thing the app will lack is in the translations.  Some languages, such as those that are not latin based, will still say Bitcoin.

I will propose that the new Goldcoin Android App should be ready by September 10 to be published on Google Play to replace (upgrade) the current wallet app.  This means that the development should be complete by September 1.  The only feature that needs completing from that I can tell is the paper wallet sweep using the Chainz block explorer.  Between Sept 1 and Sept 10, we will have testing by volunteers before we publish for all to upgrade.

Before you download this new version read these disclaimers:
Always back up the keys or wallets before trying any of this:
1.  This version replaces the old wallet (v1.16)
2.  This app cannot import the wallets from the previous test versions (4.58.x).  Send those coins to another wallet.

Let me know if there are any problems.

This is good news as we get confirmation that the official app is ready, we will update a pop up in gold club to all user to download the app to complete their profile from the play store and tire that to their account. that way if we have 1 million members in gold club all must download the app and attach their receiving key Id to their account.

The app will be a must use !!! as the system already converts 10% commission to gold coin which if you must have access to it you must download the app.

This morning I performed the upgrade and everything went smoothly except the Goldcoin icon disappeared from my home screen. This was an easy fix as I simply clicked on the "Apps" button to locate the application and move it back to my home screen.

My previous balance is correctly reflected and the list of previous transactions is present. When opening the updated app, the user is shown a reminder to backup the wallet. Once the backup has been completed, this message disappears.

I was thinking the new app had a pincode feature when sending? However, I cannot find a setting to activate this feature.

That's all for now. I'll continue testing the App and will report any additional findings in this thread.

Setting the PIN code is under options, Safety.

I need to change that, this wallet app was based on Bitcoin, where 1 bitcoin is a lot of money.  Probably should change it to 100,000 or 1,000,000 GLD for that warning.  I am out of town for the weekend.  Therefore I will fix and publish next week.

Hi there,

sry. for not being around for a while...but as everyone knows life sometimes is also around.

First of all the wallet works well. However, maybe there should be a login and logout option to have not always the wallet running in the background. The wallet is not using much data which is very good as well. Also eventually a private key to import should be possible.

All overall i give  :thumbsup:

Thank you beta testers for your work in testing the new Android app. If we can get some upgrade reports, it would be terrific.

We need a few people to install the current Google Playstore app and then upgrade it using the APK on Github. There are several users currently using the old app and when Stouse updates the Playstore, they will be notified to update.

Current app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet.goldcoin
Current app (file): http://www.gldcoin.com/downloads/goldcoin-wallet-1.16.apk

New app (file): https://github.com/Stouse49/goldcoin-wallet/releases/download/v4.58.2a-beta/goldcoin-wallet-4.58.2.apk

So, we want to get all the upgrade kinks discovered and reported before Monday if possible.

I just performed the upgrade and moved from the older edition to the new one, The process was quite smooth, After downloading the update aand installing it I didn't need to do anything, it did not need to sync again, also the balance and the private keys of the previous edition was displayed correctly ,did not need to do anything more or re-upload the private keys, Here you can see the new one home screen:

(http://i.imgur.com/jJfFXLQ.png)
I tried sending some coins with the new edition, was quite smooth as you can see, better graphics and the complete functionality:

(http://i.imgur.com/DQt4vFu.png)
(http://i.imgur.com/SCM58Hi.png)
(http://i.imgur.com/9bNCaZ3.png)

I received some coins and they where reflected immediately on my balance, no abnormalities here:

(http://i.imgur.com/dXWpbGy.png)
I tried backing up my private keys, after entering my password these were successfully uploaded to my selected folder:

Few random images:

Overall, I think the new update is a big success, it did not interfere with the previous functionality in anyway, it did add a new graphical aspect to the app as well as easier and more efficient sending/receiving. I did not need to import my private keys for it to work again, everything worked immediately "although you should have a copy of your private keys ready anyway".

Test the application, I found a small bug: If you specify the address of the application of the purse as the address where mining is when you receive a small amount of it is not credited.
or rather all that is below 0.01

This is not a bug. It is the default decimalization. You are still receiving the dust at the address.

You can always change this using the denomination and precision option listed in the "Settings" menu.

This app is not recommended to receive mining payments.  It will eventually slow down the wallet.

Now, reinstalled the app, and cant import my previous keys via the xpub. I did backup the wallet directory, and shifted all my coins over to a paper wallet for the time being.

I just need to move the coins i have on my previous account to the exchange to be sold before the prices change.

This app can't import coins using an xpub (the public "seed" for the HD wallet).  It can only import the backup files that the app makes.

If you are in a hurry and the app isn't working, a the desktop client can import the private key of the paper wallet.  If the app does work, it has a paper wallet sweep function, which will transfer the coins from the paper wallet to the app.  Let us know if you need more information.

In the app, use the Report issue function under Settings | Diagnostics and we can look at the logs and find a solution.

If you have moved all the coins over to a paper wallet, simply use "importprivkey <goldcoinprivkey> [label]" to import the private key into the desktop wallet or use the paper wallet sweep function using the Android application as suggested above.

I didn't see a report come in on my email from the app.

If you do a backup in Options | Safety | Backup Wallet, it will save a backup file in the Downloads folder and give you an option to archive the backup through another app such as email or a cloud.

If you uninstall, that backup will still remain in the Downloads folder of your device.
