Title: Problems installing wallet on Ubuntu 13.04
Post by: whitebeard on September 02, 2013, 11:22:57 PM
I get this error trying to run goldcoin-qt:

./goldcoin-qt: error while loading shared libraries: libqrencode.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

and I get this error trying to run goldcoind:

./goldcoind: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_system.so.1.49.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have installed or already had all the dependencies listed in the readme.   Where are these libraries located?  I tried to have apt-get install them by name but was unable to find them with my included repositories.

I suspect you don't have the correct version for your boost libary and are missing the qrencode library entirely
Try these:

http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libqrencode-dev
http://packages.debian.org/search?suite=default&section=all&arch=any&searchon=names&keywords=libqrencode3
http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libboost-all-dev

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate every linux setup possible, so you will have to install these packages manually.

If you have further difficulty please reply with what step you are having issue with.

Edit: Recommend using the "wheezy" packages.

Alternatively, give these a try:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libqrencode3
http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libqrencode-dev
http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libboost-dev

Tried installing the wheezy packages, but I already have the latest of each from ubuntu.  So ubuntu shuts down the install with "newest version already installed."

Where can I get the source for the clients and compile them my self?  I had to do that with my first bitcoin wallet....  maybe it's just my system.

You can get them here: github.com/goldcoin/gldcoin

Regardless of what ubuntu spouts you can always remove packages using "apt-get remove"
