Ummm, it went down to 5.
That was unexpected, I figured somewhere around 2. What happened?
-
I'm not sure the exact reason, perhaps it's due to the network hashrate? Maybe somebody decided to point a hundred megahash at the GLD chain right before block 21,000?

The network hashrate is about 14 MH/S:
Output from client:

5 is about right. It will change again at block 21,504

ok

I don't think it's right but that might be just me..
Look at an example, we have a difficulty of 5.xxx with hashrate ~15 MH/s, BBQ coin has difficulty 0.9xxx with hashrate ~73 MH/s.

What' the block target 2mins?
We can't even hit that so the difficulty is not right, at all.

If the difficulty can drop dramatically, it can also rise in the same fashion after an attack. We will have to be patient for the next difficulty change in X04 blocks.
-
With this hashrate difficulty should be 0.xxx ;)
-
I have to look but its that's around 2 1/2 blocks per hour - 62 were mined in the last 24 hours since the drop to 5 and some mining power is gone.
If mining power stay the same, at block 21504, it will drop again, and then you should see more blocks per hour.
-
I don't think the question is "will the diff drop more". I think its rather more of an issue of this coin getting attacked when the diff is low for a period of time, forcing the diff back up high again and then the big rig power that made it go up doesn't stick around when its high and leaves us right back in this same situation again.
I think that is our main concern/issue that needs to be addressed.
Another words, I think the diff re-target needs to be set in TIME(hours/days) rather than AMOUNT OF BLOCKS.
-
I think the coin had a slower difficulty drop. The reason for that could be because it would be more intense if the coin went from 7 to .7 or something. Maybe there is a limit to how much it can change. Anyway, we'll find out more at block 21,504... A few more days... I just need coinchoose to update.

Might be even better, if you had a drop from 7 to 0.7 you would get a lot of hoppers on the coin. This way if the diff adjusts let's say max per 2, you get more miners over time till we adjust at around ~1.

did difficulty drop to 3.67052813? :o
-
The difficulty adjustment must be ~250 blocks.
While our difficulty dropped, so did the hashrate.

Yes it did!
But for what reason, and why now??
-
yes it did, I am hashing away! it changed at block 21168

The difficulty dropped after block 21,167, which is 167 blocks after the last change. This is according to the block chain explorer.

wait a sec here, gldcoin said before he was changing the difficulty to 126 blocks - I looked at the code again, trying to figure out how he did it.

Really? Where did he say that? Because I don't think he did that. I guess the change at 21168 confused you? At block 21000 the nTargetTimespan drops by 4, though the way it was encoded was far more convoluted than needed. So the logic for calculating the break points was changed to special case the changeover block. However, nothing else was special cased. It does not now subtract the difficulty changeover block to find the next changeover calculation point. As you are fond of saying, this is a simple matter of math.
21168 modulo 504 = 0 and is then the next changeover point after 21000, however since the difficulty changes did not get changed to 126 blocks, the next changeover will then of course be 21672.
-
Yeah LOL that's what confused me, the change at 21,168. So in effect, when the fork kicked in at 21,000, instead of changing at 22,176, as was originally coded in the original release, it basically took the last difficulty change as being 20,664 (even though it didn't change at the time), and since the next difficulty change would have been 21,168 (20,664 + 504), that's why it changed. I didn't think about that at the time...

The difficulty algo is working rather well IMHO difficulty has come down even though there is 50mH/s mining it

2.5 difficulty for 50MH/s? Or is there something hidden that I don't know about?

It's still too high.

hashnetwork is rising over almost 81MH/s. People are noticing high profability.

There is not enough liquidity in the GLD market to support a huge dump.
So it may prove useful to keep some BTC/LTC funds in your Cryptsy account in the event some of the larger miners decide to start rapidly dumping. You may just get lucky and have time to swoop up some cheap GLD. :)
-
Within 24 hrs we will see some of the miners dumping their coins on exchange thats a disadvantage of having a low difficulty. They can mine the Goldcoins now in the thousands per day.

Correct. But if you hold a long-term view, this is a good thing. I view this as a buying opportunity since I think GLD will be worth $5.00/coin within 24 months.
If the miners dump, it just means the long term believers that buy cheap will have more five-dollar coins down the road. However it is my understanding that at least a portion of those mining now, are mining to hold.
-
It's back up at 3.6 :(
-
It will drop with the drop in price, 3.6 is nothing, and at 504 blocks per re-target, it will change very fast
-
diff. has dropped to 2.29857265.
Seen 1 miner mining more than 90 thousands Goldcoins a day. That is a lot of coins. We really need to start thinking about difficulty, block rewards, etc. Because if we have a few big miners using the low diff. to mine such big amounts of coins in a few days due to very low difficulty it isnt healty in my opinion.

That's bkc888 on http://gld.vircurpool.com/.
It would be nice if some of these new miners would engage the community. Afterall, if they don't help grow the coin, they stand to lose the most imo.

But how do we get in touch with bkc888? He is now minining over 110 thousand goldcoins a day.
-
THis pool is pushing 80MHs of the networks 109MHs. This is not good.

Yes, he could definently help the community. But how do we reach him though that's the question.
