Decentralized exchanges are fast becoming the next big wave in cryptocurrency as users become frustrated with two major flaws of existing exchanges.
- Investment is subject to total loss if exchange closes or is hacked.
- Centralized exchanges are subject to KYC/AML requirements and dictate who can and who cannot participate.
The DEX model solves entirely both of these problems since users trade within their own local wallets and the system does not discriminate based on your geographic location or jurisdiction.
This means anyway can participate and you control your private keys at all times. In essence, you become your own bank and your own exchange.
