Download: >> https://www.goldcoinproject.org/downloads.html

(Note: This is an update to the desktop client. This update does not impact mobile users.)

[Background]

As our network continues to grow, we are seeing an increase in transaction count and block size.

A few weeks ago, a 6MB block was mined. This is the first time since v0.14.5's initial release (which increased our block size to 32MB) that a block greater than 2MB had been mined. This resulted in a previously unknown bug in the client being discovered that banned nodes containing blocks greater than 4MB.

This bug has been fixed in v0.14.8.

[How to Upgrade]

-- If you are running an older version of the client, and it's in sync and working, simply close the client and upgrade.

-- If you are installing the desktop client for the first time, simply download and install the update.

-- If you are currently running a client that won't sync with the network, follow the steps in the next section.

[Stuck Clients]

If you are currently running an older version of the Goldcoin client that will not sync, you must close the client and delete the /blocks and /chainstate folders in the data directory. The directory locations vary depending on your operating system.

Windows: Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/Goldcoin

MAC: ~/Library/Application Support/Goldcoin

Linux: .Goldcoin

Once you have closed the client and deleted the /blocks and /chainstate folders. Install the latest update and allow the client to resync with the network.

Technical Support / [SOLUTIONS] How to Solve Client Syncing Issues
« on: June 27, 2021, 03:01:52 PM »
[Network Update]

A couple of years ago, we released client version 0.14.5 which included a fork upgrading our network from 2MB block to 32MB blocks.

Until recently, no one had mined a block larger than 2MB which meant older clients remained compatible with our network. However, someone mined a 5MB block at block 1430115.

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/glc/block.dws?1430115.htm

This caused a fork with older clients leaving the chain to follow the 2MB chain. That bad chain is alive because hash-to-coins didn’t upgrade from 0.14.4.

https://hash-to-coins.com/

Our block explorer, local clients, network seeds, and checkpointing servers all passed the fork without any issue. However, we have received reports from a couple of users that 0.14.7 clients are not syncing with the network.

[Solution]

If you are running the latest version of the Goldcoin desktop client and are unable to sync your client, there's an easy fix.

- Close the client.
- Download the following bootstrap file: https://www.goldcoinproject.org/files/bootstrap_20210627.zip
- Navigate to /users/<username>/appdata/roaming/goldcoin on your desktop machine.
- Delete the /blocks and /chainstate folders and replace them with the folders in the ZIP archive.
- Reopen your client.

Our team will be monitoring this thread so please post any questions or bug reports here. Thank you

The Break Room / Re: Anyone buying NFTs?
« on: March 02, 2021, 04:05:34 AM »
I've been looking into making some NFTs with photos of my paintings. I joined a group and I'm learning about what I need to do to turn my photos into NFTs. If I do offer any NFTs I'll be on Rariable.com and my username is ArtistView. I just need to get a little more information and learn more about the quality of my photos before I decide if it's something I want to try.

So my question for GLC members do any of you buy NFTs?

Hi Bill!

We have a team member Timothy McCarthy who specializes in NFTs. I'll share this post with him and we can put our heads together.

Would love to learn more about this subject myself.

The above guide is the first version. Based on the feedback we receive from users, we'll continue improving it!

If anyone needs a small amount of BLOCK for trading, post your address below.  :toast:

This is a comprehensive guide for installing BlockDX with XLite on a desktop or laptop computer.

If you already have BlockDX and XLite installed and configured, you can jump to step 3 of this guide.

(1.)  Download and install the latest version of Blocknet.

After the wallet is installed on the machine it will take some time to complete its sync with the network. You can minimize the window and allow the process to continue as we move to step 2.

(2.)  Download and install the latest version of XLite.

The is a lightweight wallet where you will store the various cryptocurrencies like BTC and LTC that you will use when trading Goldcoin. You will asked to create a password and to record your mnemonic seed. Complete the steps and move to step 3.

(3.)  Download and install version 0.14.7 of the Goldcoin client.

After the wallet is installed on the machine it will take some time to complete its sync with the network. You can minimize this window and continue working on your machine while the Blocknet and Goldcoin wallets sync. This could take a few hours depending on your hardware and internet speed.

Do not proceed to step 4 until both the Blocknet and Goldcoin wallets have fully synced with the network.

(4.)  Download and install the latest version of BlockDX making sure your Blocknet, XLite, and Goldcoin wallets are all opened.

Go through the setup. The BlockDX application should automatically detect your Blocknet and Goldcoin wallets. Follow the instructions and restart both the blocknet and goldcoin clients. Once the clients have been restarted and are again open, proceed to restart BlockDX.

Once the BlockDX application opens navigate to Add and Update Wallets from the main menu. Choose XLite and complete.

You should now have a fully configured desktop trading workstation. Your very own exchange!

You can now proceed to depositing funds and trading. In order to trade you will need to deposit a small amount of BLOCK. You can obtain a small amount of BLOCK in the Blocknet Discord or by replying with your BLOCK address in this thread.

In just a matter of hours following the Altilly closure, our community got to work and secured a new CEX exchange listing.

This was a critical move considering our existing DEX listing is not currently supported by Coinmarketcap. In addition, this will provide our community with a familiar trading interface as we continue transitioning and educating users setting up their BlockDX trading desks.

CMC link: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/c-patex/
GLC/BTC Link: https://c-patex.com/markets/glcbtc

Our team has investigated the exchange and is in contact with the staff. We now endorse this exchange and deem it safe for trading.

At the same time, we caution against using any exchange as a means of "coin storage". Crypto exchanges should never be treated like banks. Banks shouldn't even be treated like banks.

Keep only the coins on an exchange you wish to trade and keep the rest in your local wallet for safe keeping. Where you control the private keys.

Thank you as always and happy trading!  :toast:

It's been a rocky road these past 8 years and most of the speed bumps have come from CEX exchange failures.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of exchanges that have either been hacked, closed, or decided to delist Goldcoin. Most often times resulting in the loss of funds to our community. There were around 6 million GLC lost during the Cryptsy hack alone.

  • Altilly (hacked)
  • Cryptsy (hacked)
  • Bittrex (delisted then .25 BTC w/ fee.)
  • C-CEX (hacked)
  • Cryptopia (hacked)
  • TradeSatoshi (closed)
  • P2PB2B (delisted)
  • CoinEX (hacked)
  • Bter (hacked)
  • Novaexchange (closed)

So today, we'll be moving away from antiquated CEX exchanges and upgrading exclusively to DEX (decentralized exchange). And we've selected BlockDX to be our first DEX. This doesn't mean that GLC will never be listed again on a CEX, it just means our small team won't be chasing them.

There will be two primary challenges as we make this transition. First, Coinmarketcap and other index providers currently do no recognize BlockDX market price or volume. Secondly, it can be challenging for users to setup and configure their trading environments. The first problem will take care of itself mostly as DEX trading continues to grow in popularity.

For the second challenge, we're created a dedicated BlockDX support channel on our Discord server. Here, our developers along with members of the Blocknet community will help users in setting up their trading software.

Get started today using the links below:

[Note:] We are only able to offer limited support in Telegram. Please use Discord whenever possible.

Goldcoin is open-source community-based software. And exchanges don't have to ask our permission to list us. Likewise, anyone in our community is welcome to work on securing a listing with a CEX. But our entire focus and commitment moving forward will be to help pioneer the coming DEX revolution.

We are very excited about this new chapter in Goldcoin's history and thrilled to be at the forefront of this next chapter in cryptocurrency!

Service Discussion / Goldcoin (GLC) Now Supported by BlockDX Exchange
« on: December 25, 2020, 12:39:35 PM »
The Core team is pleased to announce that Goldcoin is now supported by a top DEX (decentralized exchange)! The next step in the evolution of crypto will come from DEX.

BlockDX Announcement: https://twitter.com/BlockDXExchange/status/1341353919902052353?s=20
BlockDX website: https://blockdx.com/

Decentralized exchanges are fast becoming the next big wave in cryptocurrency as users become frustrated with two major flaws of existing exchanges.

  • Investment is subject to total loss if exchange closes or is hacked.
  • Centralized exchanges are subject to KYC/AML requirements and dictate who can and who cannot participate.

The DEX model solves entirely both of these problems since users trade within their own local wallets and the system does not discriminate based on your geographic location or jurisdiction.

This means anyway can participate and you control your private keys at all times. In essence, you become your own bank and your own exchange.

If you need any help getting started, reply below or visit our BlockDX support channel on Discord: https://discord.me/goldcoin

We are very excited to be getting in on the ground floor of this revolutionary shift in paradigm.

Join the DEX revolution today!  :toast:

Tonight, our developers will making a major update that will better secure our global network.

This could result in brief outages (24-48 hours) within our mobile apps. The Goldcoin Core client will not be affected.

People ask me all the time how to support Goldcoin if they have no technical skills.

It's very simple support our market on Altilly!

In my estimation, we have the perfect foundation for building the greatest currency in the history of mankind.

It really is the gold standard of digital currency. Goldcoin currently has a 15,000% greater capacity than Bitcoin with Tx speeds 400% faster. This is obviously an excellent starting point for competing in the field.

But how can we improve and provide users with an even better use-case and experience? Below I will detail my ideas for turning this project around and getting the markets back into the green.

1. We need the warning removed from Coinmarketcap.com since it has no basis. Both websites are in agreement in regards to the roadmap and whitepaper. And both sides have acknowledged publicly that our project has no owners.

Goldcoin is open-source and decentralized. The entire point of crypto is to get away from top-down central authorities. This is mainly because absolute power corrupts absolutely. Physical gold isn't controlled by a single country or single authority, and can neither perfect money.

2. Transactions must be private. A cash payment system isn't cash if transactions can be tracked on the blockchain. Any cryptocurrency lacking privacy that claims to be a cash payment system is lying.

Our team is currently exploring the best available options for adding this privacy feature to Goldcoin. I'll break that all down in a future thread.

3. Proof of Work is not sustainable and must be replaced, preferably within the next 5 years. I have written a whitepaper on a new consensus algorithm called Proof of Participation that can accomplish this task. It's still in the experimental stages, but we have determined that this will indeed work.

Turning this project around and digging ourselves out of this hole will not be easy. I certainly can't do it alone.

But by following these steps, and with the support of the entire community, we can easily achieve these goals and climb to the very top.

And I don't mean just the top of coinmarketcap, I mean becoming the most popular currency on this planet.
