Currency Exchange / Re: What Exchange should I try?
« on: November 28, 2018, 04:17:22 pm »
I joined altilly and trading is really sow there. Going to need more people to help keep the trading volume up. Because the trading over the past 24 hours has only been 1610.8000 GLD / 0.0079 BTC and it wasn't much more the prior 24 hours.  We all know if a con isn't trading it doesn't stay on an exchange.

I will work harder to promote Altilly. It's a great exchange with a knowledgeable trustworthy owner.

Okay, Seeing I have a few thousand of my GLD tied up on Cryptopia. What exchange should I try? I know some are on Bitterx, so I was thinking of trying another exchange to help with trading on other exchanges. Any ideas?

Hi Bill!

My two favorite exchanges are Bittrex and Altilly.

Service Discussion / Cryptopia Exchange Maintenance Issues
« on: November 01, 2018, 12:56:23 pm »
Overview:

As you are all aware, the Cryptopia exchange wallet was placed into maintenance on September 5th, 2018 in response to an orchestrated attack.

In response, the Goldcoin developers immediately began working to strengthen our client by adding ACPD (Advanced Check Pointing w/ Difficulty detection) and patching the recently discovered Bitcoin bug known as CVE-2018-17144. The Goldcoin network is now stronger than it's been at any time during its long 6-year history.

Please make sure you are running the latest version of the client wallet which is version 0.14.4. It can be downloaded here.

Exchange Shortage:

According to Cryptopia, this attack allowed a user (or users) to double-spend GLD on the exchange, leaving a shortage of 1,360,108 GLD relative to user balances. While the Goldcoin developers and Cryptopia have put into place safeguards to prevent this from ever happening again, we've been asked to help Cryptopia reconcile this balance deficient before trading is resumed.

The Goldcoin developers have offered to pay 300K GLD to Cryptopia to help them with this process. I personally feel that because the Goldcoin wallet was partially responsible for the success of the attack, that's the least we can do. We have extended this offer to Cryptopia today and asked them to trade the other available exchanges to make up the remaining shortage.

In my opinion, this is a good offer considering Goldcoin is open-source, decentralized, and supported by volunteers. We all have a duty (exchanges included) to contribute to the safety and well-being of the network. Monitoring internal and external networks, along with transaction and trading activities, can go a long way in countering these types of attacks.

Community donations:

If you would like to help Cryptopia in making up this balance deficit, you can send GLD to the following address:

GLD: E3uSaQHDx1ngQsNvLoHx64bqywyQaxuY8n

~~

In conclusion, we have sent our offer to pay 300K to Cryptopia today. I will update this thread once we receive their response.

Please feel free to post your comments below.

-- No clue, but I bet a bunch of people hope so
Will the crypto currency bubble burst in 2019?
Most definitely 2019 is a sure year. If nothing happens this year between November and December.

Welcome to the Goldcoin forum. I would like to see Goldcoin become the World's reserve currency.

If we all come together, and work in a united way, anything is possible.

GoldCoin Discussion / Re: Identify wallet private key?
« on: October 24, 2018, 03:18:27 pm »
Hello, I have Goldcoin latest wallet on my computer. I have sent some coins to the wallet from an exchange. Success! But now I am wondering where is my private key? What if I lose my computer? I looked in the wallet but don't see it. Maybe hidden?

Help needed.

Thank you.

The private key is hidden but can be exported at anytime using a command in the console.

The best way to protect your wallet is by backing it up and keeping the file some place safe.

Currency Exchange / Re: Cryptopia Market closed from 2018-09-05

Hello,

what's happening on Cryptopia?

Somebody can tell us ?

The market page says they are investigating network issues. But there are no known network issues.

Hopefully, they will restore service to Goldcoin and the other 55 markets that are offline soon.

Technical Support / Re: Updated to new wallet. Coins missing.
« on: September 15, 2018, 03:39:34 pm »
Hello, I updated to the new Mac OS wallet GoldCoin Core version v0.14.3.0-7a76ae6 (64-bit). The wallet says up to date regarding transaction history. But I do not see any Goldcoins I had sent to my wallet a few months ago. Please advise.

This could be because your wallet is reindexing the blockchain. Allow the client time to complete this process and your coins should balance should appear.

Thank you that must have been it. I checked the wallet and the coins are present.

Excellent news !  :)

Yesterday, we released a mandatory update for the Goldcoin Client.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach Hash-to-Coins and they have not updated their wallet as requested. Do not mine GLD on this pool. If you mine this pool, you risk wasting your hashpower since their chain might become forked from the network.

We recommend that you switch immediately to: https://gld.thecoin.pw/

Also, if you haven't done so yet, please update: https://www.goldcoin.org/downloads.html

In order to remain compatible with the network you must update your client. You should close your Goldcoin client, if it's running, before attempting to install this patch.

The development team is currently on standby in the forum in the event you require technical assistance during this time.
