Silly Question about Transactions

I think this is probably silly question, but there is no way to tell who sent me coins just by looking at my wallet correct?  I hadn't had my wallet machine on for a bit, recently fired it up to pull some info off of it and I received 3 transactions worth of fair amount of coins.  I have an idea of did at least 1 of them, but I wanted to thank all those who sent them and put them to use with the Community.

When I open the transactions it just states unknown (I assume thats normal with the crypto currency, I thought that it would at least tell you what wallet it would come from or something) guess that defeats the anonymity of it

The main reason why it displays "unknown" is because it is programmed to do so.  It could be set up to show the address(es) from which the coins came or a label that you assigned to those addresses.  When a person sends coins to you, it may or may not come from an address that you know about.  It may actually come from several addresses from that person depending on the amount of coins sent.  I suppose the original author(s) of the satoshi client chose not to display much information on the "from" addresses.  We can always go to the block explorer if we are curious.
