Regarding the above question, I don't think we have any plans to integrate IRC into the main GoldCoin client. But if there became an overwhelming majority requesting a certain feature, I think it would be considered.

It's not only possible but its easy.

The issue is that most IRC networks won't tolerate so many connects/disconnects. In fact we had such a channel on freenode before and they banned us.

So if you can find an IRC network that doesn't mind having dozens of connects/disconnects for a single channel whose users may or may not be active. It'd be simple to implement.

I do believe freenode does not mind having connects and disconnects, it would be lovely to see this implemented.
