Mining Pools and Exchanges
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:17:56 AM »
It appears GoldCoins mining pools are on much firmer ground now.

Now it appears the exchanges may be a choke point.

Is GoldCoin only sold on Cryptsy?  I'm having trouble telling folks how to buy GoldCoin since the intermediate step of going from BTC->LTC->GLD is difficult for many of those just getting started.

Perhaps it's time to unofficially query bter, vircurex, mcxNow or heck even BTC-E.  I honestly see a lot of folks talking about GoldCoin on BTC-E now so it wouldn't surprise me if they'd take that gamble and put us directly on there.

Coinmarketcap.com has GoldCoin consistently near the top 10.  That's with the hindrance of not being able to trade for it directly from BTC.

Hard to see what else is required to get on the BTC exchanges.  Does GoldCoin have to overtake LiteCoin or Bitcoin first?

I'm just thinking aloud here so...no need to answer.

Heck we even broke into the top 10 over the past couple of days and that's with this cinder block tied to our ankles.  Somebody needs to cut that rope man so we can see just what kind of legs GoldCoin really has.

I sure hope the competition isn't paying the judges to keep that cinder block tied to our legs.  Then again, I'm just some paranoid dude sitting in his basement with my tin foil hat on.

I do think it's time to see if some other races want us as well.

This is my first post using my new Logitech K400 attached to my bedroom PC/TV setup. 8)

You've hit on a critical point here. As I was returning home this morning from dropping my boys off at school, I was thinking, we really need to make the process of going from USD > GLD (and back) easier for the consumer. This is still a choke point for BTC even today. It will be interesting to see if Cryptsy can pull off their recently announced USD integration.

As far as the Cryptsy BTC market is concerned, there are advantages and disadvantages to moving onto the BTC market. The main advantage is the investor would no longer need to convert BTC into LTC before buying Goldcoin. The main disadvantage is we might not stand out as much since there are so many more coins in the BTC market. Recently the LTC market has been in the spotlight and GLD the center of the attention.

I really like the idea of lobbying for a listing on BTC-e. It will put us in a stronger position to branch out onto multiple exchanges. That day will certainly come and the sooner the better. Perhaps we should explore the requirements and find out what we can do to make this happen. This would be a sure way to relieve some of the bottleneck you describe and give the coin even more recognition.

Tads, I really love your ideas. Please keep em' coming! ;D

The coding is not the difficult part. The hurdle is on the regulatory side of things. In order to offer this type of service in the US, you're looking at $250,000.00 bare minimum in licensing costs alone.

I'm not sure if that will help, Liberty Reserve was not hosted in the US and their operations were seized by US authorities. It will be most interesting to see if Cryptsy can pull off their plans to add a USD market. Maybe a company like BTCQuick would be willing to add Goldcoin as an option?

From what I've heard (not an attorney, legal expert, accountant, so on so forth) the companies who are making sure they're legitimate in doing business with persons or entities within the US are generally using a 3rd party monetary firm whose already fully within the whole compliance thing. I'm fairly certain Coinbase and a few others have done that. Nobody's going to mess around now that the Fed has yanked cash, nothing worse than being unable to fulfill your customer's transactions. :)
