Proper way to update software
« on: November 04, 2013, 06:44:19 PM »
What is the proper way to update the GoldCoin wallet?

I backed-up my wallet even though I didn't have any GLD, then uninstalled the older software and installed latest release (v0.7.1.4-gcf3abdf39d-beta). When I opened the new wallet I didn't see any way to import my old wallet.

I was awaiting the free GLD for new members and my concern was, my wallet address would change. When I opened my wallet some time later, 100 GLD had made it and my address appeared the same. It appears that the process I used work, but I wanted to know if I should be updating a different way.

There is no need to uninstall previous versions of the GoldCoin client before installing the latest update.

The wallet.dat file (which contains the wallet) is not deleted or over written by the GoldCoin installation program.

Nevertheless, it is always a good idea to backup your wallet.
