Ideas from my 13yr old daughter
« on: December 01, 2013, 12:19:22 PM »
So I decided to give my 13 year old daughter a tutorial on cc's, and GoldCoin in particular. She got to grips with it in about 20 mins (I was truly truly impressed - she even got to grips with the concept of the blockchain!). Here's the 2 items that came out of that discussion.

1. Why not give people some free goldcoins with their wallet? (time limited offer)
At this moment the general public (even tech savvy) don't really know where or how to get a cc. She said give them enough goldcoin to make a purchase on somewhere like iTunes (I know, I know, they don't take GoldCoin ...yet!). Not only does this introduce them to the concept, it also makes sure they get to see how using the technology works. Of course this is for the future, but remember that GoldCoin is now at approx $0.1. This is the only opportunity we'll ever have to be so generous. It would increase our popularity, and definitely our visibility, if we did that.

2. Sell GoldCoin cards
People should be able to walk into Walmart, Vons, or wherever, and buy GoldCoin cards. My 13 year old is used to walking to the market and buying iTunes cards, Club Penguin cards, Playstation Network cards etc. She said that if they can't just be 'got', then sell them in the stores!

3. Marketing (this one's my idea)
Don't GoldCoin make Press Releases??? We've just had a code upgrade. Get that news out there! In the midst of the litecoin madness, GoldCoin were setting themselves up for the future. Get these things out there!

Of course, these are all future features, but we have to be innovative if we want to stand out from the crowd. We need a group of people banging on the doors of people like Amazon, Paypal, maybe even the online game competitors. Imagine an MMORPG (e.g. Club Penguin) outsourcing their coin delivery/reward mechanism to us.

And where's our TradeMark symbol??

GoldCoin need to get creative!!

Good ideas. I'm not sure the first one is technically possible though because the address of every wallet is different. And how would you prevent fraud like me downloading a wallet 100 times?  ;-)

1. Why not give people some free goldcoins with their wallet? (time limited offer)
It is not possible to include any goldcoins in the wallet.  The software (desktop or android) does not come with a wallet, but rather generates the wallet after the program is run for the first time.  It is possible, however, to have a giveaway, which in the past has been for new forum members.

It is possible to have GoldCoin cards.  They would work like the paper wallet, except they would not be as secure because someone would have made the cards and would have access to all the public and private keys used to make the cards.

Thanks for the replies. I can see the difficulty here. Hopefully someone will find a way to overcome these limitations. The major thing people seem to be asking is just exactly how to get hold of GoldCoins.

I'll make sure I scold my daughter properly for these hair-brained ideas! :P

Hi Bubba - go easy on her! some good ideas there!

particularly no.1 because, software limitations aside, the principle is sound and it's something that need not be executed solely by virtue of a forum/website, but  that the whole community can embrace and take part in to promote Goldcoin. For my part, this is what i intend to do:

1. Talk to anyone that cares to listen about Goldcoin and cryptos; facebook/twitter all play their part, but word of mouth is still very potent! I'm amazed at the number of people i know who are, not surprisingly, aware of Bitcoin, but have no clue as to what it is and how it works.

2. Seize upon the remotest flicker of interest by instructing them on how to obtain their own Goldcoin wallet.

3. Promise them that, once their wallet is running, if they send me their GLD address, i will send them their first 5 Goldcoins.

4. Tell them, when they inevitably ask, how much 5 GLD is worth in GBP/USD/whatever. Them remind them how much 5 Bitcoins are currently worth.

Of course, it needn't be 5, it depends how generous you're feeling / popular you are!! The point is to get word out there, and trends are everything.

All good ideas. I was at a party on Saturday and was surprised that NO young people (none, yada, zero - and these were 19-25yr olds - I might as well have been talking gibberish) were even aware of bitcoin!

How about this then:

Guerilla Advertising - We have a front man. His name is MicroGuy. MicroGuy (if you're listening), hire a helicopter and drop a sack load of paper wallets (loaded with 1 GoldCoin) over Manhattan! Instructions for downloading a GoldCoin wallet on the reverse of the paper wallet.

I'd donate 1000 GLD for that cause (and I'll fly over from London to bail you out!!!:D)

(i'm joking - the infrastructure isn't ready for the general public yet - we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot with the current 4-6 hour full confirmation cycle)

This is wrong. You must be confusing us with Bitcoin.  :)

I think it was the litecoin madness last week that made me think that. The strain on the network was a revelation!
