Need some help with GLD Value
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:50:08 PM »
I'm trying to write a program and get the value of GLD to a US Dollar.  I'm getting the wrong amount of GLD. Right now I get  2209.554112 GLD = $1.00

I know it's wrong because I am using GLD and USD and not accounting for the value of GLD/LTC.

For testing I am using a value of 0.00045258 Per GLDcoin.

I told it to take $1 / 0.00045258 = 2209.554112 GLDcoin

So I need some help anyone know the current value of GLD to USD?

At this moment:

1 GLD = 0.00038 LTC
1 LTC = 0.03000 BTC
1 BTC = $98.6

1 GLD = 0.00038 x 0.03 x 98.6 = $0.00112

or $1 = 1/0.00112 = 890 GLD

Thanks Stouse49,

No way I can work around using LTC/BTC value. I ended up making a simple form using OpenOffice. Just need to get prices from Gox and Cryptsy and enter them, then it gives you the USD value.  I was trying to work on something stores etc. could use. All they would need to do is enter the items Price and their Sales Tax rate. This simple form would work, but I know shop owners just want to enter a couple of number and that's it.

Maybe someone that can write an App can use this as a guide. If anyone wants a copy of what I did let me know. But if you use OpenOffice it's easy to set up.

I don't know what but I can't list what I did. It keeps getting cut off after the first line.

*Try this again it's bugging me I can't list what I did.

Get value of GLD from Cryptsy  Use Sell GLD for LTC

Get value of  LTC from Cryptsy Use Sell LTC for BTC

Get value of BTC from Gox Use Weighted Avg.

in OpenOffice use =SUM(GLD*LTC*BTC) = USD value of GLD

Then below that enter =SUM(1/USD Value) will give total GLD in $1.00 USD

Then I have, Enter item Price in USD  $0.00

Then, Total GLD =SUM(Total GLD*Item Price) will give total GLD equal to the item price

Then I have, Enter State Sales Tax Rate in % my state is 7%

Then I have Grand Total =SUM(Total GLD+Sales Tax)

Your math is certainly correct.  Could you post the formulas from OpenOffice that get the cryptsy and MtGox information?

I just visit the sites and enter the values myself.

 allZuckedUp,

That's the info I am trying to get into the OpenOffice Spreadsheet. But I don't think it can be done. Unless someone knows how. I was trying too insert or use the the Gox ticker http://data.mtgox.com/api/1/BTCUSD/ticker. But I think in openoffice you can only use HTML pages, from what I was reading.

If you got that set up. You should be able to add sections for people to enter a product  Price and Tax Rate that will give the total amount of GLDcoins due for a payment. That's just what I'm trying to do :) . But  then it needs to be downloaded for stores to use.

Assuming openoffice can't poll the data directly is true... (I tend to deal with more databases/indexes/libs/logs/etc. then I do with spreadsheets)
It CAN be done, if you REALLY need this in openoffice/libreoffice...
Basically write a small script to run every-so-often, poll the ticker/api, grab the data fields you need, manipulate the data, and either insert the data directly into the spreadsheet file, or render a small/simple, local html page to follow with your spreadsheet...
(assuming Linux, a fairly simple mixture of cron, awk/sed/grep, bc, echo, etc, and don't forget some logic to verify it's a good poll... if you're running Windows, I know it can be done about the same way, but I  don't do windows, so I gots nuthin')

I have a few calcs in mind for my stuff, but for now I'm trying to get the monitoring thing I've started with to a point I'm happy with... not quite there yet.. Thanks though...  :D

EDIT: I should have read your original post better.. :p
What I suggested would work to put the data into a HTML page or spreadsheet, but wouldn't be good enough for a real application... that was just an idea for a hack to make your sheet work...
