How long does it take?
« on: February 23, 2014, 07:24:35 PM »
I see in my wallet that it has two choices, Solo mining and Pool mining.  My hash rate is about 12000 per second on solo mining. How long would it take to get coins and how many?

Does Goldcoin have Faucets? I seen a few but they don't seem to work. I'm really just trying to get a feel for this coin.

for mining I would set up cgminer 3.7.2 and then set up an account and a worker on a pool     http://gld.cloudmines.net    then configure your settings for cgminer in a .bat file and mine away.

I can't seem to find any real answer as to how long it takes. When can i see the coins in my wallet from the time i start to mine?

sorry i have never mined just using the wallet. Are you mining with a cpu or gpu?  When solo mining you could be lucky and hit a block right away and be rewarded 45 coins  or it could take longer because it is pretty random.  Pool mining is more consistant on the coins rewarded because every block of 45 coins found is divided up between all the miners in the pool.

Thank you for the information. So it's random well that would explain why they call it mining. What is a normal range to expect a find?

Right now I'm using an 8 core cpu just trying to learn how this all works.

you can estimate the amount of coins that you can mine based on your mining speed.  Cpu speed is pretty slow compared to gpu.  My guess with your cpu would be around 10-25 kh/s  so that would give you 5-10 goldcoins per day.  The new top of the line gpu's can pump out over 800 kh/s

If solo mining at 12KH/s, then it may take an average of 7 to 8 days to solve a block worth 45 coins.

If pool mining at 12KH/s, then it one may yield about 6 coins per day.

Based on the following link,  GTX 660 Ti can do somewhere between 150-220 kh/s.

For mining purposes, AMD (ATI) gpus (specifically R9 series) are commonly preferred.
