How Do I get my GOLDCOIN back from a formatted Computer?
« on: September 15, 2017, 08:41:53 AM »
Hello,

I had over 2000 goldcoin on my desktop computer. The computer became corrupt so I had no option but to format it which led to lose of all the files on it.

Please, is there any assistance to get it back?

Thanks in advance for your support.

I'm not sure that formatting the hard drive was the best idea.

Unless you have a backup, you won't be able to recover those coins.

Does that imply I lost all the coins?

There are possibly some ways to get your coins back, but it will require some one to inspect your hard drive.  Don't take this to geek squad, rather find a local computer repair shop that can do data recovery.  Where are you located?

That is the application directory shown in your Screenshot.

You will need the wallet.dat file from \users\<username>\appdata\roaming\Goldcoin (GLD)\

Found it.

What should I do next

1. Install the the Goldcoin client on a working machine and then close the application.

2. Navigate to \users\<username>\appdata\roaming\Goldcoin (GLD)\ and rename the default wallet.dat file to wallet.old.

3. Copy the recovered file to above directory, restart client, and allow it to sync with the network.

Once the client fully syncs with the network, the balance of the recovered wallet will become available.
