Dual-Pair Exchange Trading | The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
« on: November 09, 2013, 11:15:09 AM »
Please share your thoughts on the dynamics of dual-pair trading.

For example on Cryptsy some coins have trading pairs in both BTC and LTC markets. If a buyer/seller visits the exchange and wants to trade the currency how would he go about getting the best deal. Would it not be more complex and require trading in both markets? If so would this not possibly require the buyer or seller to "hesitate" and look for simpler coins to trade?

I agree with this.  It's probably best to be traded against just BTC.

Maybe we should request that both CoinEX and Cryptsy remove the GLD/LTC trading pairs?

And maybe we should get a few more opinions.  I use both depending on if I have LTC or BTC to spend.  It saves a step and fees.  I could get by without the LTC option but I'd like to see what others have to say

I agree with that.  I'd love to get some more thoughts on it here though.

I'm thinking about this now and running different scenarios through my mind and contemplating what effect each would have on market price.

And maybe we should get a few more opinions.  I use both depending on if I have LTC or BTC to spend.  It saves a step and fees.  I could get by without the LTC option but I'd like to see what others have to say

Interesting. This is a good point also needing consideration.

Volumes on CoinEx and Cryptsy were higher in the BTC market than with LTC according to my observations.

With both pairs I just use the one I can get the best deal in. So I use both LTC and BTC markets, just figure out which one you can buy the most Goldcoins in :) But I do use LTC most of the time, guess that's because Goldcoin started in the LTC market.  But I think one market would be better, BTC is the market Goldcoin should be in. Sooner or later the high price of BTC has gotta bring up the prices of the coins trading under it. Because people will be looking for something else they can invest in.

I think the volume on Cryptsy is important for exposure and getting the coin in the most hands (adoption).  A BTC only option at both sites, coinex and cryptsy is likely best.

I have no data to support this conclusion.  It's just a gut feel.

more exchanges is more exposure mcxNow would be great since they list fewer coins which makes them look more reputable.  When people come to cryptsy for the first time they can be overwhelmed with all the different coins.  mcxnow is a great idea in my opinion

I cant say whether being on ltc and btc markets is good or bad, i really just don't know. but i would guess that if we were on a USD market it would really help. People see their alt currencies drop in btc value because btc is rising but some don't realise the value of their coin isn't actually dropping much if they calculated it in USD.  BTC-E is the only exchange for alts that has a USD market as far as i know, and cryptsy are supposed to be adding USD market at some point. But in the meantime getting on as many exchanges as we can such as MCXNOW can only be a good thing.
Might even be a good idea to check for any Chinese alt-coin exchanges and try get on them too since the Chinese are buying up BTC like mad.
