I think that marketing and promotion is very important at this time. It may be worth it to make some investments into exposure to part of the demographic that's just learning about Bitcoin or only owns Bitcoin and doesn't know about alts yet... i.e., the general internet friendly culture.

What about creating some ads or getting bloggers to mention GoldCoin? Not sure if one could avoid having to pay something here, but it could it could create quite an advantage. This could be a start for finding where to post the material: http://selfmademinds.com/200704/which-blogs-have-the-most-feed-subscribers/

Yeah, we, the community need to get the word out there.
We can at least make some posts on bitcointalk. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just simple replies to simple questions and mention goldcoin or have it in the signature.

Well, part of my point was that Bitcointalk is an insider community where there is familiarity with the alt currencies. However, if a blog with 500K readers includes a message like "So yeah, Bitcoin is the future... and there are also other crypto currencies branching off, some with different features... Namecoin can store the registration of .bit domain names... and then there's GoldCoin with a sleek client and faster transaction times... oh by the way, you can go here for a free giveaway... and remember, Bitcoin already grew a lot but GoldCoin is still cheap", then there could be a lot of new investors for GoldCoin.

entirely agree - the key to progression is selling the idea of GoldCoin outside of the crypto community. I think we're all getting a bit hung up on on coinmarketcap / bitcoin related forums etc all feels a bit introspective. Anyone I introduce to the idea of digital currencies goes away with the idea that there's bitcoin, litecoin, and GoldCoin. Forget the rest.

The whole problem with GoldCoin is there are only about 5 people actually doing anything.  The rest of us are just all talk.  The 5 that are are pretty much fixed in their roles and what they are capable of so if GoldCoin is going to stop from slipping and rise, someone is going to have to step up and market, etc.

Personally, at this point, I don't see it happening.  Everyone is content with telling the board what should be done and leaving it at that.  This post itself is a fine example.

i very much see it happening, but some patience and perspective is called for.

We should consider all the positives over a relatively short period. Look at GoldCoin's value at the beginning of November, less than 8 weeks ago; it's done very well since then. The forum membership has increased in parallel and there are a now GLD specific utilities emerging (marketplace/localgoldcoins) and of course the official video project, all of which provide a platform for growth - but it's not going to happen overnight.

As for who's doing anything, i suspect there's a lot of activity but not all shared publicly on the boards. For my part, I've made a number of donations where obvious effort has been expended by community members to further the cause (which we could all do, cause it all adds up!) and I've encouraged friends to invest c$2k in GLD (all with 'talk' i hasten to add!). OK, not earth shattering i know, but i doubt i'm the only one extolling the virtues of GLD in a predominantly 'off-line' fashion.

I agree with tadspoles on this one.  The rise of GLD is just naturally rising and falling with Bitcoin at this moment because it's just another altcoin.  The 8 week performance really doesn't tell us much except that this altcoin didn't die... because everything else shot up like crazy in that time frame thanks to bitcoin/litecoin hype. Marketing is the biggest thing that we need to do as a community or a representative to pursue in order to get more spot light.  We can be patient and wait until someone scoops us up, but then there's nothing unique about us in the cryptomarket.

If we had some people who have experience in wall street or precious metal investment, then meeting with big gold/precious metal companies to sell GLD as an alternative way to invest would REALLY make this different than bitcoin/litecoin.  Instead of bitcoin being the "gold" of crypto, we can actually be THE gold.  Right now, investing in physical gold is tough... you have to have it shipped to you, which takes time with a possibility of it getting lost/stolen.  If you do have to move a large quantity of gold, then you need to put more money for security/transport fees.  Once you receive your physical gold, then you need a place to store it and keep it secure.  Imagine GLD being used instead of physical gold (backed by the precious metal community at an international level)... one can send and receive GLD in minutes, doesn't need a huge space to keep it stored, AND you can keep it secure easily offline.

I would love to be getting paid just to be out in wall street to set up meetings with CEOs and alike to push this idea, but I don't have the credentials required to pull it off.

I still believe that one first step that EVERY ONE can be part of is be active in bitcointalk since many newbies read there.
If there are alot of positive info about goldcoin there more people will get interested about it.

If we want to make an impression, and we want people to notice us, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO!

I learned about Bitcoins over 4 years ago on Lifehacker. It's going to be a little pricey, but it's going to be well worth it. I'll contribute as much as I can, but my budget is tight as I just buried my father last month and I'm still paying of funeral and notary fees.

This NEEDS to happen. So let's organize and get going!
