Some Truth
« on: August 03, 2013, 06:47:53 AM »
Ok Boys...tadspoles in a mood and a bit disturbed about some events.

I'm going to give you my assessment of GoldCoin and where we are at.

Microguy and his team of developers have pulled this coin out of the Duldrums.  Heck even some of his long term critics are coming around.  He is a trustworthy guy.  Now he can get a little hot around the collar if something rubs him the wrong way and remove a comment or two but that never has bothered me.  It won't bother me if/when this gets removed but here's what is bothering me.

I don't know if he did it on purpose or if he's just got the mentality of a 12 year old but Dreamwatchers games with his pool are really ticking me off.  We are having some good momentum and he just closes the thing.  Just up and closes it...no warning...nothing.  It's down guys sorry....meh.  I'm Dreamwatcher and I do WTF I want.  F the GoldCoin community!?!?!  It would be different if this was the first time but it just wasn't and we all know that.

We HAVE to do better.  Notice a lot of miners simply left when that happened.  No one likes to go through the aggravation of switching their miners around all the time and it makes us look bad.  So what can we do about it?  Has anyone looked into getting p2pool set up for GoldCoin?

Honestly, with the pool situation, I can't blame Big Vern for not listing GoldCoin in the BTC section yet.

We have a helluva coin I think.  It has a helluva name, THE best logo of any of the coins AND now an excellent client.  We need to get the pool situation tightened up so our miners aren't hassled so much then maybe Big Vern will show us some love.

That is all.  Sorry for the negativity but that's the truth as I see it.

I actually love the idea of building a pool.
I'm nearing the end of what I had in mind to start with for the network monitoring thing, and I've seriously been considering a pool next...

I have a few logistical questions to solve first, and I'm still not exactly "done" with CoinMon...
I need to re-write some of the existing logic for resource efficiency, and I'm looking to add block count ,coin volume, marketcap, and last trade volume to the coins/exchanges... aside from having a real job, that'll all likely take me about a week'ish... From there, I've been looking to start something new...

So, what kind of pool do folks want?
PPLNS (like vircur)?
or PPS (like cryptocoinmine)?
or something else entirely?

Also, does anyone know how much real bandwidth a hash eats? does that change based on difficulty, etc.? (I'm going to start packet capture/analysis on a machine that's mining, BUT, if someone can save me the trouble... ;D) Hosting costs USD (at least to start), thus I need to have a "general idea" of how many terabytes of data I'm going to burn, and how quickly/much it needs to be able to scale.

im in the boat your talking about. i mine the vircurpool PPLNS. and it seems just when my miners are up and im getting a steady pay out..... !@#$%^&*BLOOP!! its out and my systems are up and running for nothing and its a pain in the rear .but as a small time miner i try to spend time to make sure is running it almost not worth my time to keep reseting my miners all the time. but nay nay it come back when i almost have given up. so i keep on keeping on.  we need a dedicated pool.

i too feel gldcoins got big things to come for it. its name IS the best of the crypto coins. its still a baby at this point. but kids do grow
and they grow fast.  :)

i love the idea. it dont matter the kind as long as it stays on. seems ive seen you in vircur, do you get disconnected alot? im not sure but it seems to "hold" a worker open? but gets disconnected and dont allow reconnection., i dunno. the idea of more pooling options sounds pretty grand. as long as you didnt zuck it all up. lol  ;)

thanks

I'll take whatever pool stays the hell up and I'll kiss your ass for it.

Anybody else with me?

WOW, I'm overwhelmed and encouraged by the strong response!

Yep, that's me... and oh god yea, disconnected/stale all the time...

As for the connection working/reconnect not working thing, that's common with TCP based services... You establish a persistent connection, kinda like a phone call.  If the server is running out of resources and hits a known limit of some kind, current connections keep running (poorly, thus the urge for users to disco), new connections just get rejected.

That's part of what has me worried about this idea... Simply put, cheap hosting doesn't come with a lot of machine.  For example, the ISP I'm using for CoinMon is $8/month making that site a fairly cheap toy.
So, my $8 buys me a VM with 2 core, 2 TB bandwidth, just 20G of disk, and ONLY 512M of RAM... I'm hesitant to build a pool with that sort of hosting if all I'm going to accomplish is a pool that re-creates the problems of the existing pools, or chews up so much bandwidth I end up paying huge unexpected ISP bills for bandwidth overage charges.  So I've just gotta build some idea of what exactly I'm getting myself into...

yea it seems like it a big tasks to take on,and that does seem a little small. all i can say is raise the fees of the pool. we need miners or this coins doomed. if your really concidering doing so maybe you can through up another post so its seen better or more and lets try to make this happen. maybe donations to take up the slack on a hosting upgrade. what ever needs done. im super small time as a complete noob, but you got mine and tadpoles support so far. im not sure about the hosting thingy or whats the best route to take all you can do is try it! like micheal jordan says " HEY.... it could happen" ;D

I like the idea of another pool, but please understand this coin will never be doomed. We have contingency plans in place in the event the network hash-rate drops to critical levels. Thank you very much for supporting Goldcoin!  ;D

sorry bout that i guess that doomed was a bit harsh. what i meant to say was people getting discouraged when their favorite pool goes down. for instence. someone i got into is coin was mining and when the pool went down, this person was ready to up and move to a new coin.WHAT?? ??? oh no. i had to asure them it was to return and not to give up. and that can hurt this coin if their leaving for other coin. i myself am staying and feel this coin IS working great, we just need more options to make it BIGGER. and not have people doing the disco.

thanks

I agree wholeheartedly that we need additional pools and sincerely appreciate this community's efforts to build more. I also admire those that continue to mine during unprofitable periods in support of our precious coin. Thank you all for this tremendous show of support.

I think the main reason the "speculative miners" stopped mining recently was because the coin became highly unprofitable overnight. The day the Cryptomine went down was the same day the block reward dropped from 500 to 45 as difficulty remained relatively high. This caused the coin to move from the most profitable coin on coinchoose to one of the least profitable.

Moving forward as the price of the coin increases, and as difficulty decreases, the speculative miners will return to the pools. If you look at coinchoose (as of this writing) we have already returned to the 4th most profitable coin on the LTC chart. I suspect you will see some miners returning soon.

This community is the coin's greatest asset and I'm so proud to see how far we've come in such a short time. Thank you all.

Your guidance Microguy and your team is why I'm here.  Plus the relaxing videos.  :)

He thinks I'm playing about that.

Thank you to whoever game me all the GoldCoin so cheap on Cryptsy.

I'm not buying anymore though because I don't want my hand to be so large.

I can't stress to anyone reading this though just how cheap GoldCoin is now.

Tadspoles just added to his collection and I'm not selling until we reach 20 bucks at least.  Then maybe I'll get rid of some.
