Just as a point of interest back in the 60's and 70's in S. Africa, " Gold Coins" (slang) was something one bought in the chemist because they came in a gold foil coin, similar to the gold coin chocolates. 
Was it a specific something from the chemist or just any old thing?
I actually remember these, they where chocolate coins covered in a very thick gold foil, looked pretty cool and was a good quality chocolate as well.

The chemists kept them in a fish bowl on the counters.
Yip, we even ate goldcoins here in SA.
