Coin Generation
Our generation rules condense the entire history of gold from the beginning to the end when Earth's finite supply is finally exhausted into a condensed and practical 100-year model making them both limited finite resources.

MODERATOR EDIT:  This graph was updated to reflect changes made in the coin generation rules by the 21,000 and 45,000 hard forks.

Post anything that should be added to this list.

He deleted my account and everything I had posted was also deleted. So I had to re-write that post.

Thankfully I had the image saved locally.

MODERATOR EDIT:  This post originally quoted the entire first post of the original thread which contained outdated information after the 21,000 hard fork.  Therefore it was removed.

So there are going to be 100,000,000 Goldcoins

and the timeline currently is for them all to be mined in 160 weeks?

Am I interpreting the graph right?

Isn't that too fast to release the coins in 160 weeks?

Won't that cause the price of the coins to go down, by releasing too many coins too fast?

And where are all the buyers for this huge amount of coins going to come from?

Seems to me, that it would make more sense to slow down how many are mined and spread that out over a much longer period of time, kind of like the way bitcoins are going to be mined until 2040 sort of thing.

And over more time, perhaps more buyers might be lining up for all the coins, but I wonder if enough buyers will be around in the early days, in those 160 weeks?

* I wanted to mention that having a links page like this on the forums is useful, but may be difficult for people to find, as they have to dig around on the forums to find it, and it is initially hidden from site when people first come to the forums. Same with the how-to instructions, where that might be better displayed on a web page as well? I suppose if you made these topics into stickies they might be easier to find?

Yes, you are interpreting the graph correctly, all GLD will be mined in just over three years.  [MODERATOR EDIT:  This was true for the Original GoldCoin.  However after hard fork 45,000, the time frame was changed to 100 years.]

I understand your concerns, however there is a multitude of reasons that you can not reduce the block reward.

The first being it would increase the level of "premine" that the coin has (early adopters would benefit even more than they already are) the second being it would require another hard fork.

If all the coins are mined in 3 years, then there is no incentive to mine after that? How is gldcoin going to process transactions without miners?

[MODERATOR EDIT:  The concerns about the three year time table and miner's incentives is no longer a concern under the current 100 year plan.]

Transaction fees, as with BitCoin. Probably higher though.

Even if BTC will be mined until 2140, half of the coins will have been mined by 2012 and three quarters will be done by 2016.

By 2025 block rewards will be 3.625 and over 90% of the coins will have been mined. I'm not sure the exact point but around here (perhaps five years after) is when miners will start to profit more from transaction fees than block rewards themselves.

As for stickying this thread, I think it should be stickied too, but I'm not a mod or anything. >>

What about this pool?

(* this pool has been omitted from the BitCoinTalk Thread so there may be something wrong with it, it's at <1m/hash)

Also, you could add links for the blockchain:

And perhaps some profit calculators that show Goldcoin:
http://coinchoose.com/litecoin.php

Also information about different pools and hashrates:

Thanks Stouse! :)

I added your suggestions to the list. (Y)

I may end up sub-categorizing stuff if we get enough links, but until then I think that I've put everything in appropriate places.

Emma pool?

Emma is the "reincarnation" of Greedi, whom went rogue on the Litecoin forums, and shut down all of his pools, and promptly took all of the balances.

EDIT:
All that happened back in January. So long ago...

I feel jaded by all of the crapcoin releases.

Could links to binaries and sources be updated here too? I thought version 0.6.4 is still current until I found last update at www.gldcoin.com
