[UPDATE] 11/11 Network Upgrade and Technical Discussion
« on: October 20, 2019, 07:51:27 AM »
On Nov 11th, the Goldcoin developers will be releasing an updated version of the Goldcoin Core client software. This upgrade will replace the previously scheduled RBH.

[Rational]

It was determined this week that we did not have a required consensus of nodes to fully adopt the RBH. This would have resulted in a critical network split creating two versions of the Goldcoin blockchain. As you can see using the network tool below our decentralized network is highly distributed.

Rather than risking the negative effects of a network split, the development team has decided to move forward with a traditional hard fork using an updated client that will remain backward compatible for an extended period.

This revised update will allow us to increase our network capacity as previously scheduled without disrupting our network or creating an inflationary event.

[Key benefits]
  • No risk of network split
  • The update will be backward compatible
  • Network nodes will have 6 months to upgrade
  • There will be zero inflation
  • Nodes won't be burdened with the storage requirements of the BTC blockchain
  • Tx throughput will increase to ‭1,120‬ TPS
  • Our immutable ledger will remain fully intact
[Conclusion]

This revised update, to be released on Nov 11th, will allow us to increase our network capacity (as previously announced) without disrupting our network or creating an inflationary event for users.

In the best interest of the project, I think this is the best path to chart. If RBH will cause a network split which cannot sustain at this fragile moment, then a new fork to replace it becomes a good call.
