Your public and private keys are stored in a wallet.dat file.

So backing up and restoring the client is simply a process of copying this file to and from the folder of your local drive. There is also a backup feature in the client that I won't cover here.

The wallet.dat file is kept by default on windows machines here: /users/username/appdata/roaming/Goldcoin (GLD)/

- First, close the client

To backup the wallet: copy the wallet.dat file to the backup media of your choice.
To restore the wallet: copy the wallet.dat file back into the same folder.

- Then, open the client

If you have any questions, feel free to fire away.  8)

You export your wallet.dat file to a secure location and remove goldcoin wallet application or reinstall system and than reinstall wallet application and import wallet.dat file.

Is it the same for Android version?  Or should I use windows version then transfer it over to a thumbdrive?

Downloaded it on my phone and it's currently "synchronizating with network, 6 months behind" and it keeps stalling.  Doesn't help that the internet here is super slow...

If someone can send me 1 GLD or less  to verify that my wallet works, that would be great.  I'll send it right back to your address. I'm not sure if there's a fee involved?

Address is E2F5pdfNtLbuDTnAakpDhkawxKRta779zT

Sorry for the noobness.  First time using the wallet and I want to make sure I receive it when I buy it.

Gotcha.  I'll use the windows version for this transaction.  I just wanted to make sure I can transfer my wallet since I'll be wiping this laptop to sell it to a friend of mine.

Thanks for the help!

Just a warning: before you sell a laptop i suggest you create new wallet on new computer and transfer money there. I was able to recover unencrypted wallet.dat from quick formated hard drive that i bought from second hand.

Gotcha.  Unfortunately I won't have access to my home computer before I sell the laptop to a friend.  I encrypted the wallet and made the backup on a external drive.

Just want to check 100% before I wipe my laptop:
1. Encrypt the wallet; Create a backup wallet.dat to external drive
2. Wipe the computer
3. Log onto my home computer, install the client.
4. Copy and paste the backup wallet.dat from my laptop (from the external) over to my home computer
5. GOOD?

I know this is pretty much what was said by pimoz, but I don't want to screw it up.

Also, what is the "signature" for each address?  I've read that it provides ownership.  Should I be putting a signature on every address before I send/receive?
