Gauging interest in gld.cryptocoinmine.com going PPS
« on: November 10, 2013, 04:16:21 AM »
I am considering either changing gld.cryptocoinmine.com into a PPS (Pay-per-share) pool or opening http://goldcoinmine.net as a Goldcoin PPS pool.

At one point the cryptocoinmine Goldcoin pool was PPS, but the coin had not grown enough to support a PPS pool, I would like to see if it is ready now.

PPS = Pay-Per-Share. Shares are valued at (block_reward - pool fee/current_difficulty). Every miners gets payed the same for every share submitted, proportion of shares to a found block do not matter. This system tends to favor the small miner, as the large miners lose the proportion advantage against a constant block reward.
In this system the pool operator assumes all the risk as the miners get paid for valid shares at the PPS rate no matter how long it takes for the pool to find a block. The pool fee is higher for this kind of pool as I must absorb all the cost of orphan blocks and unlucky streaks.

So what are your thoughts?

Hey Dreamwatcher. I have mined multiple coins now over the past few months. I have tested all kinds of different pool payout models. I have found that both PPNLS and Proportional can be volatile at times. If the block runs long then the miner takes a hit in he doesn't get paid until the block is found. Where in the PPS model the miner gets the same payout and can project payouts overtime. There were a few times I was mining proportional and the block ran over 3 days. When we finally found the block I was paid out. But only at the normal proportional rate. So I lost money over the three days. Where I should have earned 2.5 coins a day LTC. I only earned 2. So I lost 5.5 coins over that time. So I much prefer the PPS model as miners get the more predicable payout. So I would like to see a PPS pool for the GLD network, with as fast as blocks are being found the risk for the pool operator will also be lower.
